New Website!

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

So, I am very excited to announce that today we rolled out the new website. If you get a moment, stop by and check it out: studioaphoto.com.

Also, thanks to Ryan for getting me started on a good web design workflow (Photoshop>Fireworks>Dreamweaver) and answering questions that other designers might laugh at me for asking.

Moe’s BBQ – Daphne, AL

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Shot some photos for Moe’s last night (not the Southwest Grill Moe’s, but the wonderfully delicious barbeque joint in Daphne). I promise I’m not aiming to toot Moe’s horn or anything, but I’ve never tasted better barbeque. And I’ve had a lot of barbeque.

John Lisi and the Delta Funk Band came all the way from New Orleans to play, and they were fantastic.

Kate & Mike – 04/26/09

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Kate and Mike are from Kansas, and some time ago when Mike was traveling for business he stumbled across Fairhope and has been in love with the place ever since. It has become sort of home away from home, and Kate and Mike decided it would be a wonderful place to get married.

Here are a few more shots from wedding.

Pictures of People Taking Pictures

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

It’s not often that Amy and I get our pictures taken together.  And it’s even more rare that we have our pictures taken when we are taking pictures, which reminds me of a very serious and eager question I frequently consider: what do we call “pictures of people taking pictures?”

At any rate, here is a picture taken by Mike’s brother at Kate & Mike’s wedding. They were courteous enough to forward this photo to us. Thanks, guys.

Ryan Lundy

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Ryan came into town this past weekend for a haircut and a visit with old friends, and it was good to have him around again. I was able to interrupt him from “organizing his digital life” for a minute (those crazy graphic designers have a very impressive workflow) to take this picture.

You may follow some of Ryan’s work at http://www.ryanlundy.net.

Lisa Christian

Friday, May 8th, 2009

This is Lisa, or “Music Lady,” as I’ve come to know here. We met here a few weeks ago at Mike and Kate’s wedding, and her first words to me were, “Hello Photographer Guy, I’m Music Lady.”

She has wonderful taste in music and is an equally excellent musician and philosopher.  You may hear some of her music here, or listen to her musical taste on Sunny 105.7 fm (she’s a disc jockey too.)

Josh & Lou’s Visit

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Josh and Lou came to visit us this past weekend, which was some sort of feat considering Josh’s recent surgery. Not having his foot elevated for more than a few seconds alone was something new at this point in his recovery stage…and they drove three-and-a-half hours to come hang out for the weekend.

They’re moving to Italy for a while and we’re hoping that we can sweet talk them into moving down here after they get back since they don’t really have any definite plans for their return yet.

Oh yeah.  And we tested out the new 5D Mark II’s HD video capture for the following performance (it would be best to watch the video in HD, of course:

Digital Photography 101

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

We are honored to have been invited by Ms. Jones to be a guest speaker in her Digital Photography class at Fairhope High School. She asked us to explain to the class “how we do what we do,” and I loved every minute of it.

It’s been some time since I’ve seen the classroom from this perspective.

This is Drew. There are two lessons going on here. First, we learned a lesson in making your model feel comfortable, and it was a lot of fun trying to get Drew to feel awkward before we made him feel at ease in front of the camera. Second, we learned how to make the most of our lighting. In this particular case, the room had a lot of overhead fluorescent lighting, but the room also had a lot of large windows.  We cut the lights, put Drew next to a window and cranked the ISO up on our cameras so we wouldn’t have to use the flash.

Good times.

Thanks for having us Ms. Jones.  We’d be happy to come back anytime.
