Ms. Jones and her Digital Media Class

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Amy and I often get to work with Fairhope High School’s Digital Media class during their segment on photography. Ms. Jones teaches the students in the classroom the basics of operating a camera manually (aperture, shutter speed, film speed, etc.), and once they’ve grasped a few of these concepts, we get to accompany them on a field trip, putting their knowledge to use!

We truly love working with Ms. Jones and her students, and hope to continue to have the opportunity to do so in the future.

Ryan Lundy in Fairhope

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Our dear friend Ryan Lundy is working on a project that includes the potential start-up of a letterpress business, and we stopped by Fairhope one afternoon a while back for scouting and inspiration. I happened to grab the camera on our way out, and I couldn’t be happier that I did.

The Longfields Beat the Rain

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

A few months ago we donated a family portrait session to a Habitat for Humanity auction, and the Longfields won! We met them at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope on a day that was supposed to be relatively clear, but ended up pretty drizzly. They were all good sports, and we ended up with a lot of fun pictures with umbrellas.

FAST Swim Meet

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Today was the first swim meet for the Fairhope Area Swim Team (FAST).  And it was the first ever competitive swim for Ethan, Emily, and Olivia.  I decided to go down to the pool and get some shots, just for fun.  I don’t go out and shoot just for fun nearly as often as I should, and I’m always glad when I do.  I enjoy it so much, and I remember why I love photographing people more than anything.  Anyway, here are few of my favorites:

Kate & Mike – 04/26/09

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Kate and Mike are from Kansas, and some time ago when Mike was traveling for business he stumbled across Fairhope and has been in love with the place ever since. It has become sort of home away from home, and Kate and Mike decided it would be a wonderful place to get married.

Here are a few more shots from wedding.

Also, you may view the full gallery here.

Digital Photography 101

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

We are honored to have been invited by Ms. Jones to be a guest speaker in her Digital Photography class at Fairhope High School. She asked us to explain to the class “how we do what we do,” and I loved every minute of it.

It’s been some time since I’ve seen the classroom from this perspective.

This is Drew. There are two lessons going on here. First, we learned a lesson in making your model feel comfortable, and it was a lot of fun trying to get Drew to feel awkward before we made him feel at ease in front of the camera. Second, we learned how to make the most of our lighting. In this particular case, the room had a lot of overhead fluorescent lighting, but the room also had a lot of large windows.  We cut the lights, put Drew next to a window and cranked the ISO up on our cameras so we wouldn’t have to use the flash.

Good times.

Thanks for having us Ms. Jones.  We’d be happy to come back anytime.

Kate & Mike

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

We thought about waiting to post these photos until we’ve put together a complete gallery for Kate and Mike’s wedding, but everything was just so pretty, so we couldn’t really wait.

Here are a few of our favorites.

Kate and Mike, we’re very happy for the two of you, and are honored to be a part of your special day. Be safe traveling back to Kansas.

I actually meant to only post three or four images.  Oops.
